Nathan Broadhead impressed for Everton as they beat on Colombian Primera A Runner-up Millonarios on penalties to win the Florida Cup in Orlando.
Everton arrived to train in the blistering heat of Orlando last week, with Broadhead joining the squad on the back of his new two year contract at the club. He will be looking to impress new manager Rafa Benítez during pre-season and he didn’t disappoint.
The Florida Cup had been reduced to just one game after the withdrawal of Arsenal and AC Milan due to problems with Covid in their squads. Broadhead came on for the second half, replacing Moise Kean, with Everton 0-1 down.
The Bangor born forward took his opportunity with a confident performance, winning a penalty for the Toffees after rounding and then being felled by the Millonarios goalkeeper, the penalty kick was converted by Demarai Gray to secure a 1-1 draw.
Broadhead went close a couple of times during the 90 minutes before converting his attempt in the subsequent penalty shoot-out, which Everton won 10-9.
The Reaction:
Everton FC
“Broadhead, operating up front, with Gray behind the striker, was tireless and imaginative with his running.
“Clever on the ball, too, and he tricked his way into space on 79 minutes, evading Llinas on halfway and running away from the defender.
“Arriving in the penalty area, Broadhead was met by Moreno, spreading himself to save a strike intended for the far corner.”

Not an easy task playing as the lone striker but won the spot-kick from which the Blues levelled. Also had chances to score. Made no mistake with his spot-kick.

Broadhead in particular made a big impression. Besides drawing the penalty kick, the young striker showed wonderful off-the-ball movement and turn of pace. He beat his defender at midfield and got himself 1 on 1 with the keeper with 11 minutes left but was unable to steer it around the keeper.
Fans Reaction:
“Nathan Broadhead has looked very good since coming on. Great off the ball movement and has shown some top-level pace as well.”
“Remember the names. Nathan Broadhead and Anthony Gordon.”
“Nathan Broadhead has impressed me, felt he deserved ago at times last season.”
Everton will take the field again on Wednesday when they take on Mexican side Pumas.
