Residents and local authorities worked together on Friday to collect 7 skips full of rubbish and 30 bags of litter from the streets in Maesgeirchen, Bangor.

The Environmental Day was organised by Adra in association with Gwynedd Council, Antur Waunfawr, North Wales Police, Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership and MaesNi.

Skips were placed at Lôn y Parc, Penrhyn Avenue and Min y Ddôl for larger items and Gwynedd Council re-cycle team will be present to help collect any re-cyclable goods. Antur Waunfawr collected small electrical items and any clothing that could be recycled.

The volunteers, including both young and older residents, began litter picking at 10am and continued throughout the day, despite the very warm weather. The younger volunteer litter pickers received a certificate, while all volunteers were rewarded with a sausage or bacon bap and drinks to cool them down.

Local Councillor Nigel Pickavance said the day was a “Huge success” Tweeting: “Massive success. Van after van of recyclable items which was the winner. 7 skips full of bin bags and 25-30 bags of litter collected around the streets.
