A 48 Hour Dispersal Order has been authorised for Bangor city centre following a number of incidents of antisocial behaviour.
In recent days, there has been an increase in antisocial behaviour and public order offences throughout the Bangor city centre area.
Police have received reports of youths throwing eggs, climbing on buildings, large gatherings with no social distancing and rowdy behaviour, and riding of bikes in an antisocial manner.
There have also been some incidents of offensive graffiti sprayed on buildings and cars. Last night, a 13 year old youth was arrested on suspicion of throwing a rock through a window of a local restaurant.
A number of other arrests were also made yesterday for public order offences and two police officers were assaulted.
Inspector Chris Hargrave said: “Bangor is a fantastic city, and the local residents should be able to come to the High Street without having to be subjected to this poor behaviour. It is a small minority of people that are causing the problems, with most living in the area themselves.
“A continuation of this behaviour simply cannot continue.
“I am aware a lot of youths are also travelling from the Menai Bridge area. I appreciate that the lockdown measures are easing, and we are in the middle the school holidays with a period of hot weather.
“However this type of anti-social behaviour and criminality is not acceptable. I would urge all parents to question where their children are, and what they are doing whilst not at home.
“A 48 hour dispersal order has now been granted until 8pm on 13th August, and we will be robust in our approach to any further incidents.
“Any individual that is asked to leave the area and refuses, or leaves and returns will be liable to arrest. We will also reserve the option of extending the order if anti-social behaviour persists.
“A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) also exists in Bangor, and drinking in the city centre or any other behaviour that causes others harassment, alarm or distress may result in a fine or arrest.”
