Gwynedd Council have confirmed there will be free parking in Bangor, in their long and short stay car parks, between 14th-27th December, in the run up to Christmas.

The initiative is aimed at increasing footfall on the High Street and benefiting local shops during the pre-Christmas period.

The free parking will also coincide with the Bangor Christmas Market on 15th December.

Pamela Poynton, Chair of the Bangor Improvement District (BID) and also a business owner on the High Street, said: “This is fantastic news for Bangor High Street, it will encourage people to do their Christmas shopping in the city and also support local businesses.”

The council had considered cutting the free parking offer for the 2019/20 budget, saying the decision was needed to help plug a “financial gap” of about £13m, but later dropped the plans.
