Staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd organised an entire wedding in just a few days so that one of their terminally ill patients could marry her partner of 21 years, on Christmas Eve.

Staff on Ffrancon Ward went to extraordinary lengths to make sure Duane and Lynda Bailey’s day was as special as possible.

A bay on the ward was transformed into a wedding venue for the ceremony while Christmas decorations helped create a magical wedding for the couple from Penygroes.

Duane, who was due to marry Lynda earlier this year said staff on the ward made this Christmas extra special for them. He said: “The staff really went to great lengths to ensure the day was perfect for us, they helped Lynda get ready and also ensured we had an area to have the ceremony and even made us a wedding cake!

“The ceremony was amazing and it was lovely that the staff could join our friends and family and watch us get married.

“This was a really special day for us and without the staff from Ffrancon this would never have happened, we are extremely grateful to everything they’ve done for us.”
