Work has finally started at the Parc Bryn Cegin Business Park at Llandygai, but it’s not the development most people were hoping for.

The development work is believed to be for a ‘Park & Ride’ car park for the proposed, but now stalled, new Nuclear Power Plant at Wylfa on Anglesey.

Parc Bryn Cegin

The Parc Bryn Cegin site on the outskirts of Bangor was built in 2000 and despite several promises of development, it has remained empty for the last twenty years.

Liberty Properties Developments Ltd were chosen by the Welsh Government in 2015 to create a multi-screen cinema and restaurant scheme , but while a cinema operator has been secured, the developers have been unable to attract enough restaurants to make the scheme viable.

Plans for a 187 space ‘Park and Share’ car park at the site were approved last year and for a bus stop, which would be utilised for a shuttle bus transporting shift workers to and from the proposed Wylfa Newydd.

Wylfa Newydd

Horizon Nuclear Power, the company behind Wylfa Newydd, announced in January 2019 they were suspending work at Wylfa Newydd after “it hadn’t been possible to reach an agreement on the financing and associated commercial arrangements in time to sustain ongoing levels of development.”

A statement from Horizon Nuclear Power added: “It is hoped a way forward can be found, in discussion with UK Government, that will allow activity to resume so our projects can play a key role in the UK’s low carbon energy future. While we consider our next steps we remain committed to being a good neighbour and responsible landowner locally and will ensure the local community is kept up to date.”
