On Saturday 7 September 2019 the U.K. Coastguard at Holyhead received a request for assistance from the crew of a sailing catamaran with engine failure in the Caernarfon Bar area at the entrance to the Menai Strait.
The lifeboat volunteers where paged at 7:43 am and the Beaumaris Inshore Atlantic 85 Lifeboat launched at 7:55 am proceeding to the assistance of this craft.
Fortunately the vessel had managed to anchor in the Caernarfon bar channel but was beam on to the swell which made the conditions for the two crew members aboard the craft very uncomfortable.
Once at the scene one of the volunteer lifeboat crew was placed aboard the casualty vessel and the lifeboat then proceeded to tow the craft into the Menai Strait, after transferring from an astern tow to an alongside tow the lifeboat placed the catamaran alongside the vessels pontoon berth at Port Dinorwic Marina.
Once this was completed the lifeboat was able to return to her station at Beaumaris arriving back at 10:40 am being refuelled and made ready for her next service call by 11:00 am.
Some footage from Saturday 7th September's call out.
