Bangor University staff are holding a rally in Bangor on Monday, following a protest march against pension cuts. The march will start from the University’s Main Arts Building at 12pm on Monday, 5th March, to Bangor clock tower.

A rally will then be held in Bangor, where Llyr Huws Gruffydd, Plaid Cymru Welsh Assembly Member, will speak.

The rally, which is being organised by the Bangor University Branch of the University and College Union, said on twitter: “We’re holding a Rally in defence of our Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) pensions as part of the strike come and join us – you don’t have to be a member of the Union or even be associated with the Uni to show your support.”

Anyone attending the rally is being encouraged to bring a whistle or musical instrument or to make a banner.

Staff at Bangor University began 14 days of action on 22nd February, which will be spread over 4 weeks. The remaining strike dates are Week 5-8 March and 12-16 March.

Bangor University issued a statement last week calling for a rapid negotiated settlement to this dispute. Vice-Chancellor, Professor John G. Hughes said: “I support other vice-chancellors who have called for the reopening of national negotiations and I hope that a speedy resolution can be achieved through compromise on both sides”

Striking staff at Bangor University are providing a series of public teaching events during the strike. Which are open to all students, all staff and the public.
