North Wales Recovery Communities has submitted a planning application to Gwynedd Council for the change of use of the former Hillgrove School, on Ffriddoedd Road Bangor, to a hostel which would provide supported living for residents.

The proposal would also include an extension to the building and associated works.

North Wales Recovery Communities are currently based at Penrhyn House, Bangor, however, the premises is in a state of ill repair with the need for substantial investment in the property and it would not be financially viable to purchase the property and undertake the renovation work and it would not meet the best interests of the charity and its future capabilities to help those in the community with their recovery.

North Wales Recovery Communities is therefore looking to relocate to Hillgrove School at Ffriddoedd Road, to provide a fit-for[1]purpose site, which would be in keeping with the best interest of the charity and its future growth.

A statement from North Wales Recovery Communities said: “We appreciate the concerns that have been raised by the local community in response to the planning application, and therefore we have arranged an open public drop-in session on Wednesday 31st August 2022, between 4pm and 7pm at Penrhyn House, Bangor, LL57 1PZ.

“This is an opportunity for members of the public to discuss the proposals in greater detail with us.”
