The Post Office are looking for a new Post Office provider in upper Bangor after the existing Post Office at ‘The Late Stop’ on Holyhead Road closed in February due to ‘operational reasons‘.
Local residents and businesses were left outraged after the closure and are having to manage with a one hour a week mobile post office service, which visits Morrisons car park every Wednesday afternoon.
Arfon AM Siân Gwenllian raised the issue of the closure in the Welsh Assembly last month, when she questioned Alun Davies, Cabinet Secretary for Public Services.
Mr Davies replied: “I am aware of the situation in Upper Bangor, and I can tell the Member for Arfon that there is a matter being dealt with currently.
“The Post Office is at present dealing with it; it’s a contractual matter, I cannot say more than that.
“I am aware that alternative services have been made available, but that they are not adequate for the needs of the community; it’s only a mobile service available for one hour only Wednesday.”
Post Office Opportunity
The Post Office have now advertised for a ‘successful retailer’ to incorporate a Post Office into their existing or proposed business.
The offer available would involve integrating Post Office services into a ‘vibrant and sustainable retail business‘ so they can be offered over the same opening hours. The exact layout and design will be agreed to suit the business.
