Pontio in Bangor will host a night of comedy and laughter to raise money and awareness for the LGBT+ group in GISDA in Caernarfon.

The LGBT+ youth club at GISDA has been running since 2017, reflecting the need to give space for young people who identify themselves as LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender).

The informal club was established as a meeting place for young LGBT+ people to feel comfortable and happy. It is a place where they can support each other, express themselves freely, and identify with others.

Young people from as far as South Meirionnydd, Anglesey and Conwy attend the club which takes place every other Monday evening at GISDA’s café in Caernarfon.

Local girl Kiri Pritchard-McLean, ‘Have I Got News For You’ and ‘8 Out of Ten Cats’, has got together a stellar line up of the UK’s best LGBT+ acts, including Joe Lycett (Live at the Apollo, Never Mind the Buzzcoks, 8 Out of 10 Cats, QI) Stephen Bailey (Celebs on the Farm, Live at the Apollo) and Rosie Jones (The Last Leg, Live at the Apollo, Hypothetical).

Kiri, who grew up on Anglesey and attend Ysgol Friars in Bangor, said: “I’m very proud of this and I need all North Walian’s to get behind it.

“My friend Klaire is involved in a charity that runs an LGBTQ+ group, the only one of its kind in North Wales, it has no real funding but is so vital.

“So, a thing I can do? Host a brilliant line up at Pontio Bangor. I asked my funniest mates to schlep up to North Wales and because they are gorgeous and generous they agreed.”
