North Wales Police have called on young people not to plan social gatherings and parties to ‘celebrate’ after all schools closed on Friday, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Police have seen a rise in antisocial behaviour, which is placing increased demands on emergency services during this difficult time.

NWP Bangor said: “Calling on young people in Bangor. We know schools are closing but please refrain from meeting in large groups.

“Sadly we are seeing an increase in anti-social behaviour. Listen to Government and Health officials about the importance of social distancing. Use your social media channels instead!

“We are staying here for you. Please stay home for us.”

A Level and GCSE examinations have already been cancelled and it‘s not known when schools will re-open.

Officers on Anglesey posted on Facebook: “Dear all parents/guardians,

“Young people usually arrange parties or house gatherings to ‘celebrate’ the end of the school year. Due to early closures of schools/colleges/universities, please could we suggest that young people defer their gatherings as they have historically created demand for the police and health services.

“Due to the unprecedented situation, we are requesting that the gravity of the situation is communicated, in order to protect our most vulnerable.

“As we head into a period of challenge, we respectfully ask that you support us in keeping them and our community safe. We will continue to support you during these uncertain times.

“We would like to continue to thank the residents of Anglesey for your continued support.”
