Air cadets from Eryri, Bangor and Colwyn Bay have been crowned regional champions after joining forces for a space competition at RAF Cosford.

The team, made up of cadets from 1310 (Eryri), 1557 (Friars, Bangor) and 271 (Colwyn Bay) Squadrons, represented their Wing in the Space Competition at Regional Activity Day, securing first place.

Their success followed dedicated preparation to develop their space and STEM knowledge, alongside the teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills needed for the competition.

The winning team comprised Sergeant Harri Bale, from 1557 (Friars); Corporals George Taylor, Arianrhod Jones and Jessica Bamber, from 1310 (Eryri); and Corporal Kayley Wang, from 271 (Colwyn Bay).

Flying Officer Rychelle Pugh, Officer Commanding 1310 (Eryri) Squadron, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of them. They worked brilliantly together, represented the Wing fantastically and thoroughly deserved the result.”

She added: “It was fantastic to see all of that preparation and perseverance pay off.”

The squadron hopes the achievement will encourage more young people to discover the opportunities available through the RAF Air Cadets.

1310 (Eryri) Squadron is currently welcoming new cadets aged 12 to 18, with activities including flying and aviation, space and STEM, adventure training, leadership, first aid, sport and fieldcraft.

While awaiting repairs to its headquarters in Caernarfon, the squadron is meeting alongside 1557 (Friars) Squadron in Menai Bridge.

Parade nights take place every Monday and Thursday, from 7pm to 9pm, at the Drill Hall, Old TA Centre, Dale Street, Menai Bridge, LL59 5AH, next to the Freckled Angel restaurant.

The squadron is also seeking volunteers to join its civilian committee. Anyone able to spare a couple of hours a month to help support opportunities for young people in Caernarfon is encouraged to get in touch.

Young people interested in joining, parents and guardians seeking further information, and prospective committee volunteers can email oc.1310@rafac.mod.gov.uk.
