A mural dedicated to Bangor-born footballer Nathan Broadhead, has been unveiled in the city.

The mural was painted by local artist Andy Birch, thanks to funding from Gwynedd North Neighbourhood policing team and other partners.

Nathan currently plays from Championship promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town and now regularly features for the Wales National Team.

The mural also features 1876 and the Bangor coat of arms, along with the words “Gorau Chwarae Cyd Chwarae” which translates as “Team Play is the Best Play”  along with the Welsh football moto “Together Stronger” .

PCSO Julie Broadhead (not related to Nathan!) said: “With funding obtained from Crimebeat @PACTNORTHWALES and Bangor City Council, we have been lucky enough to commission the fantastic artist, Andy Birch, to produce a mural within Bangor City Centre.

“Following a spate of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour on our city walls, it was decided to organise a positive project, with the help of some local youths, to try and restore and revive this part of the city.

“I would like thank everyone who participated on this project including

-PACT

-Bangor City Council

-Gwynedd Youth Service,

-Gwynedd High Sheriff Mrs Phillips

– Cllr Elin Walker Jones

– Citizens Advice Bureau, all the young people, my colleagues from the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Andy Birch himself.

“Diolch yn fawr iawn! I hope residents and visitors to Bangor enjoy it for years to come.”
