Bangor born Nathan Broadhead has been included in Everton’s first team squad for the rest of the 2020-21 season.
Following the conclusion of the January transfer window, teams have completed submissions of their 25-man squads for the remainder of the Premier League season.
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad list is mostly as expected with new signing Joshua King added. Broadhead will now join the first team squad after impressing with his performances for the under 23s.
Each Premier League squad can contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be “Home Grown”.
The 22 year-old forward, who signed for Everton at the age of 10, has a contract at the club until June 2021.
After joining the first team during pre-season (2019-20) Broadhead spent last season on-loan at Burton Albion in League One and impressed with his performances, despite suffering a recurring hamstring injury.
A regular player in Everton’s U-23 set-up, Broadhead’s finest campaign to date was recognised when he scooped Everton’s Under-23 Player-of-the-Season prize following the young Blues’ winning Premier League2 and Cup double in 2018-19. A highlight of the season was also scoring a double in Everton’s 2-0 win against Liverpool U23’s at Anfield.
After breaking into David Unsworth’s Under-23s in the second half of 2016-17, the attacker was rewarded with a new three-year deal.
Everton U23 manager David Unsworth has described Nathan as ‘one of the best players’ he’s worked with.
Nathan has been capped by Wales at every level from Under-17 to Under-21 and was called up by manager Ryan Giggs for a Wales training camp in the Algarve last year.
He made his senior Everton debut on 7 December 2017 when coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute in the Blues’ 3-0 Europa League group stage win over Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.
During the summer Everton were believed to be ‘open to offers’ for Broadhead, but without a transfer or loan deal being secured, he has used the opportunity to secure a first team callup.
