Mystery surrounds the sightings of a number of Peacocks in Bangor over the last few weeks.

The birds have been spotted on Bangor mountain, in various gardens and near Bangor High Street.

Members of the public are becoming increasingly concerned about the condition of one birds that appears to have lost some tail feathers and appears to be in a poor condition.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “We have received reports from members of the public who are concerned about the welfare of several peacocks that have been sighted in Bangor.

“Peacocks are notoriously difficult for us to catch, but if a member of the public finds a bird that is injured or unable to fly then we urge them to contact us.

“The birds aren’t native to the UK so it is likely they will have escaped from a private collection.”

The RSPCA have also urged the owner of the birds to get in touch. The spokesman said “Somebody in the Bangor area must know who owns the peacocks and hopefully they will get in touch with us.”

While the Peacock is a wild bird by nature, they have been domesticated in most countries. The Peacock’s natural habitat is woodland and forest though in the wild they adapt well to different environments. In captivity Peacocks can live up to 15 years, some have been recorded living as long as 30 years.
