Welsh Wonder, Dylan Hughes, has had a star-studded year whilst continuing to raise thousands of pounds for charity by summiting Wales’ highest peak, nearly 450 times!
The father of two from Bangor, who can often be seen bringing smiles to fellow hikers faces, as he dresses as Spider-Man whilst summiting Yr Wyddfa for charity, was approached earlier this year by Sony Pictures, to help launch the latest Spider-Man film. The movie makers, who had heard about Dylan’s fundraising efforts, asked him to represent the whole of the UK in the new Spider-Man Movie: ‘Brand New Day’ launch trailer. Since then, Dylan has been invited to attend press launches with the stars of the movie and was also invited to attend the UK premiere in London.
Dylan said “It’s hard to think that Sony Pictures picked me to represent the UK, and to be one of a few people from around the whole world to be involved in the movie launch. Never in a million years when I started my fundraising efforts could I ever imagine any of this happening.
“I’m hoping that being involved in this incredible experience helps to boost my fundraising efforts and that I can raise as much money as possible for this year’s charity, Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue, and more importantly help them to save lives!”
Dylan has racked up over 4,000 miles (450 summits) on the mountain in the last two and a half years, with many of those summits over the knife edge ridge Crib Goch. Being in the mountains 2-3 times each and every week of the year, Dylan knows all too well how important Mountain Rescue are for walkers throughout Eryri.
Speaking about the charity Dylan said: “Being out in the mountains, I regularly see or hear about mountain rescue teams being tasked to incidents. It is incredible to think that those teams are made up entirely of volunteers giving up their own time and often having to respond in tricky conditions to help others in their hour of need.
“My social media followers picked Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue as this year’s charity, and I know this lifesaving charity relies entirely on donations, so being able to help just a little towards their annual running costs in an absolute privilege.”
Dylan has raised over £15,000 during the last two and half years for various charities, including a Hope House Children Hospice and Breast Cancer Now charity.
