BLAS Pontio and Atebol, are delighted to announce the launch of MonologAYE, a collection of monologues that puts Bangor’s diverse and colourful voices into a book for the first time.

‘MonologAYE’ has developed from a number of collaborative projects between BLAS, Pobl i Pobl, and the North Wales African Society. Through this work, it became clear that many people who live in Bangor have unique stories to share – whether that be personal stories or reflections on life in the city.

MonologAYE aims to keep these stories on record to celebrate Bangor’s colourful communities as well as creating a valuable resource for local actors looking for unique pieces to perform. Whether it’s at auditions, competitions or at shows. As the project unfolded, all the elements were brought together at a sharing evening in 2023 – with live performances of the monologues and conversations with contributors.

On Friday 11th October, the finished book will be launched at Pontio in Bangor, and the authors and mentors will come together to chat about the process, with performances of some of the monologues and live rap by Owen Lee MacLean (A Gent Orange) who was part of the project. The evening will be chaired by Gareth Evans-Jones, who is a mentor on this year’s MonologAYE project, working with employees from the National Health Service.

This is a special opportunity to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the people of Bangor, giving a platform to voices that are not always heard and putting Bangor on the map.

The event is bilingual with simultaneous translation and Palas Print will be selling books on the night.

Friday 11th October 7pm – Free but ticketed. Book Tickets Here.
