Boxing legend Dave Davies will take centre stage at a Bangor fun day in August when you will have the opportunity to have your photo taken with Dave and see his large collection of trophies, including his medal from the Commonwealth Games.

Dave Davies’ greatest achievement was, as an amateur boxer, winning silver medal at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, narrowly losing in the final to Mohamed Muruli of Uganda.

Dave was crowned British ABA champion at light-welterweight in 1970, beating Scotland’s Peter Harrison in the final, and then at welterweight in 1971, defeating Terry Waller.

After turning professional in 1972, Dave won the Welsh light-middleweight title before challenging Maurice Hope in London in a final eliminator for the British title. Hope won the fight and later went on to become the world light-middleweight champion. Dave won 14 of his professional fights, 7 by knockout, and ended his professional career in 1979.
