North Wales

Plas Newydd, Anglesey

Summer’s arrived at Plas Newydd and there’s a whole host of fun outdoor activities in acres of woodland and green open spaces for all the family this summer.

Come out and play – There’s no better place to ‘come out and play’ than the gardens and woodland at Plas Newydd. Throughout the school summer holidays we’re encouraging families to get active, explore the gardens and discover nature. Follow the arrows to complete a 1km walk and enjoy some fun activities along the way. Reach up high for ribbons in the trees, move like your favourite animal, put your balance skills to the test and don’t forget to take a picture on the podium at the end.

50 things at Plas Newydd – From making friends with a bug to rolling down a really big hill, whatever the time of year, there’s something for every explorer at Plas Newydd. Do your favourite activities over and over again, or find out about all of the ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’

Frisbee golf anyone? Take on the family and show them how it’s done! Can you master our Frisbee Golf course? Throw your Frisbee and try to land it in the basket. It’s not as easy as it sounds! Open daily, simply bring your own Frisbee from home or there are some available to buy in the Old Dairy Shop (normal admission applies, free for members.)

A sense of adventure in Dairy Wood –  Precarious rope bridges above crocodile infested waters, Ninja training camp and Tarzan’s Anglesey hideaway… our adventure playground has been lots of things in the minds of small explorers over the years. One thing’s for sure they can play to their heart’s content in the magical setting of Dairy Wood.

Picnic at Plas Newydd – Plas Newydd has plenty of green open spaces that are perfect for picnics during the summer months. Just remember to pop all your rubbish in the bins located in the Sunroom Courtyard or by the Visitor Centre before you leave. If you don’t fancy preparing a picnic beforehand, the Sunroom Kiosk (11am-4pm) and Old Dairy Café (10.30am-4.30pm) have a selection of sandwiches, snacks and drinks to choose from and are open daily. Perfect for an ‘al fresco’ lunch on the lawn!

Bodnant Garden, Conwy

With 80 acres to explore, Bodnant Garden is the perfect place to let your little explorers run wild. Fire up young imaginations as you jump over steppingstones, play pooh sticks in the Dell or hunt for wildflowers. Don’t miss the Play Park too with its zig-zag walkways, mini suspension bridge, and rope walks.

Penrhyn Castle and Garden, Bangor

Follow a ribbon trail through the wood or hop and skip your way through a winding meadow path; there are plenty of challenges to keep little ones active at Penrhyn Castle. Don’t miss the natural play area, swallow sculpture trail, or on Thursdays, the chance to try a spot of tennis on the Chapel Lawn.
