A multi-purpose Community Centre in Maesgeirchen, Bangor, has moved a step closer as part of a £1m investment scheme in the community.
Invest Local Maesgeirchen is a £1m Lottery funded, 10 Year programme, designed to improve the lives of the residents of Maesgeirchen and leave a sustainable legacy.
Invest Local is administered by the Building Communities Trust who are responsible for rolling out the programme across 13 communities in Wales, which is an opprtunity for everyone living in those communities to make their local area an even better place to live
Following several well attended public meetings at Ysgol Glan Cegin in the spring of 2016, a public consultation was undertaken with the findings made public in a consultation report.
The top priorities coming out of the consultation included the building of a sustainable, multi-purpose Community Centre, which will provide a home for the many groups and activities on the estate and the reinstatement of a Play Scheme among many of the things highlighted.
Since the consultation, the Invest Local Maesgeirchen steering group was established and has been meeting on a regular basis carrying out visioning workshops to prepare for the next phase of the programme, ‘Driving Change’ which is now underway.
The Driving Change phase is now in full swing and will see the publication of The Plan in the next month. This initial and first Plan, will focus on what is deliverable in the short-term whilst negotiating a way to deliver the more ambitious and longer-term objective of a community centre.
The Invest Local steering group is always looking for more talented volunteers and local residents to strengthen the group and ensure the voice of the Maesgeirchen community is not lost.
