From 18th September children and young people in Maesgeirchen, Bangor, will be welcomed to a new performing arts group established in partnership with Maes Ni to give all young people the opportunity to experience the arts.
Young people of all abilities will be welcome to participate in a range of activities from dancing and acting to all the work that happens behind the scenes.
The group is open to those in school year three (age 7) and up and meetings will take place every Friday at Eglwys y Groes Maesgeirchen from 6pm until 9pm at the nominal cost of £1 per session.
Steffie Williams Roberts, who is one of those who has established the group, said: “Having both been a member of and run a similar group in Maesgeirchen previously, I am excited to give children and young people the opportunity to discover the arts in the same way that was afforded to me when I was a young person on the estate.
“The original Showzone played a huge role in shaping me as a person and I know how beneficial access to the arts can be for all involved. After such a period of hardship with the COVID-19 Lockdown, I’m excited to be able to offer children and young people the opportunity to come together to work on a fun-filled project.”
Steffie started performing in the original Showzone back in 2005 and went on to study performing arts in Coleg Menai and at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has also worked professionally as a choreographer and performer.
Also on the team is Eirian Williams Roberts who will be handling the administrative aspects of the group and Naomi Crane who also studied performing arts at Coleg Menai before recently graduating from the University of Chester with a BA in Dance.
In order to comply with COVID regulations, all young people who wish to attend MUST pre-book their place in advance. This can be done by emailing maes-g_showzone@outlook.com or by contacting them through their Facebook page Maes-G Showzone.
