Local councillors have welcomed the bid for Bangor and the surrounding area to become 2025 UK City of Culture
Welcoming Bangor and the surrounding area’s bid to become the 2025 UK City of Culture, Plaid Cymru Bangor Councillors said: “This is an opportunity to work together and put the city of Bangor, the slate landscape World Heritage Sites of Arfon and Anglesey on the map.
“As a city with its rich heritage, language and culture deeply rooted in its people and its communities, this is our chance to share with the world the traditional and contemporary Welsh culture that forms the fabric of our city.
“Here is an opportunity to celebrate Wales, Welshness and the cultural connections that have influenced the heritage of this area. From the university to our quarrying industries, from our high street businesses to Pontio’s arts centre, from Wales’ oldest cathedral to the most Welsh city in the world.
“It is a credit to us, as councillors for the area, that Bangor is making this bid to be placed on the cultural map, thanks to collaboration between Gwynedd Council, Bangor University, Bangor City Council and others.
“From the port to the pier, from the mountains to sea, from the city to the countryside – Bangor is now home to hundreds of languages and cultures that make it a multicultural city well deserving of the title of UK City of Culture 2025.”
