Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd recently live streamed a music festival on their Facebook page to raise money for the running cost of their radio station and also for Awyr Las, Ysbyty Gwynedd’s official charity.

The music festival attracted over 23,000 viewers from around the world including Australia, New Zealand and America.

Initially, the Festival was due to stream between 7-9pm, but due to the phenomenal support from bands, musicians, comedians and performers, the Festival ran for over 5 hours!

KT Tunstall, the Ivor Novello Award winner singer/songwriter and musician joined the Corona Festival from Los Angeles to wish the volunteers luck with their Festival and performed two songs including her massive single, ‘Suddenly I See’.

The Hospital Radio Station, which has been serving the local community for over 40 years, is staffed entirely by volunteers and brings music, information, requests and messages from friends and relatives direct to patients’ bedside. Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd relies on donations and fundraising activities to keep the service going for the patients. Due to the current situation, Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd cancelled three of their fundraising gigs. Members of Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd’s committee arranged their enormous festival in just three weeks following a suggestion from one of their members to arrange a live music stream to raise money for their service. The Festival was arranged remotely following numerous Zoom meetings and Facebook and WhatsApp messages.

The Festival was a huge success with viewers tuning in from around the world and donating to keep the service going for the patients.
