Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have appealed to families and friends not to visit loved ones in hospital if they are feeling unwell, after rates of infection in hospitals across North Wales are higher than usual at this time of year,

Angela Wood, Executive Director of Nursing & Midwifery at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “Rates of infection in our hospitals are higher than usual at this time of year, as so many viruses are circulating within our communities, so there is more of a risk of infection.

“We understand that visiting loved ones in the hospital is important, particularly over the Christmas period. However, patients who are unwell in our hospitals are more likely to be vulnerable to severe illness because of flu, COVID-19 and other infections such as colds, diarrhoea and vomiting.

“To protect our patients and staff we ask that if you are experiencing symptoms of flu, norovirus and COVID-19 or if you have been in contact with someone who had those symptoms within the last 48 hours you do not visit our hospitals. If you are feeling unwell with a cough, cold or sore throat, we also ask you not to visit our hospitals at this time – this will help us stop the spread of germs on our sites.

“As an additional precaution to help reduce the spread of infections, when you visit our hospitals face masks are available should you wish to wear one.

“Thank you for your continued support and understanding in helping us to maintain a safe environment for everyone.”
