Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have appealed to the public not to remove hand sanitiser from hospitals following the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the UK.

The NHS have advised that washing your hands is a key part of preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus, but hand sanitiser gel can be used when soap and water are not available.

However, since the outbreak of the virus in the UK, demand for santisier has risen dramatically and despite limiting sales, most supermarkets have sold out, now the hospital’s supplies have been going missing.

Patients in hospital are often more susceptible to infection because their bodies’ natural defences may be weakened. To prevent infections spreading sanitising hand rub is provided at the entrance and exit to wards, bays, side rooms, departments and at each bed space.

A spokesperson from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “We have had some reports of hand sanitiser gel being removed from our hospitals.

“Hand sanitiser gel in hospitals are there to protect staff, visitors and patients, they are not to be removed for any reason.”
