This year, the only households in Gwynedd that will have their refuse and recycling affected are those that have collections on either Christmas Day (Tuesday, 25 December) and Boxing Day (Wednesday, 26 December).

For residents who would normally have their waste bins (the green wheelie bin or black bags) emptied on a Tuesday or Wednesday, the Council has arranged to collect the waste in the days following Christmas.

For households, that will miss a collection on 25 and 26 December 2018. The following arrangements apply:

  • Waste (green bin) Tuesday, 25 December 2018 – Collecting on Thursday, 27 December 2018;
  • Waste (green bin) Wednesday, 26 December 2018 – Collecting on Friday, 28 December 2018;
  • Re-cycling and food waste Tuesday, 25 December 2018 – Next collection on, Tuesday, 1 January 2019;
  • Re-cycling and food waste Wednesday, 26 December 2018 – Next collection on Wednesday, 2 January 2019.

For clinical waste or disposable nappy collection (yellow bags), there will be no collection on Tuesday, 25 December or Wednesday, 26 December. The next collection will be the following week, on 1 or 2 January.

Although it’s a bank holiday, there will be normal collections for everyone on Tuesday, 1 January 2019.

For those families who may find it hard to cope with extra waste generated over the festive period, the Council are urging them to use recycling centres located in locations across the county.

Gwynedd Council’s network of recycling centres will be open longer over Christmas to help residents dispose of their additional seasonal rubbish conveniently and with minimum fuss.

Councillor Gareth Griffith, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Municipal matters said: “As a Council, we appreciate that the excesses of Christmas usually mean that we all produce extra rubbish over the festive period. We are therefore urging residents to make full use of the Council’s recycling centres.

“We have seen in the past that our recycling centres can get very busy in the days following Christmas. That’s why, to try to ensure a stress-free visit, we have arranged for a number of our centres to be open for an extended period. So remember that you don’t need to rush down to the recycling centre first thing on 27 December.”
