Officials were left red faced recently when Y Felinheli Football Club were awarded a trophy for the best match programme in the Welsh Alliance League Division Two, but the club’s name was spelt as “Y Fekinheli”.
The blunder, which left the club sounding like a catchphrase from the sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys, has since gone viral and the club has featured in a number of national newspapers and on BBC Radio Sport Show ‘Talk Sport‘.
Gwil John from CPD Y Felinheli told Talk Sport: “It’s a really nice trophy, and I didn’t notice the mistake until someone pointed it out about a week later.
“The situation could easily have been avoided had the league’s officials checked the trophy prior to us being presented.
“It’s just an unfortunate mistake, we see the funny side and don’t want to make an issue of it, we don‘t want a replacement as we prefer the original.”
The trophy also has the word ‘Programme’ spelt incorrectly and officials from the Welsh Alliance League have since offered to present the team with a new trophy, with the correct spelling.
