An extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office as temperatures are expected to be around 30°C for most people as the heatwave continues. In Bangor the temperature will spike at 31°C between 1pm and 4pm this afternoon before it cools off slightly.

Porthmadog it will hit 30°C at around 3pm for a couple of hours, before falling to around 25°C at 10pm. As for Caernarfon, temperatures will hit 30°C between around 1pm and 3pm.

The lowest temperature in Caernarfon will be 23°C at around 10pm. In Blaenau Ffestiniog it will be much the same with the highest temperature expected to hit 30C at around 4pm but it will be slightly cooler at night hitting 24°C at 10pm.

Across Anglesey the temperatures are set to peak at 31°C today. In Beaumaris the highest temperature is set to be 29°C  and that will be at around 3pm this afternoon, while the lowest temperature to expect there is 21°C before 8am this morning.

That amber weather warning came into force at midnight and stays in force until 11.59pm on Tuesday. However, some parts of England are covered by the first ever red warning for extreme heat over that period.

What to expect

Adverse health effects are likely to be experienced by those vulnerable to extreme heat. Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice.

The wider population are likely to experience some adverse health effects including sunburn or heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue) and other heat related illnesses

Some changes in working practices and daily routines likely to be required

An increased chance that some heat-sensitive systems and equipment may fail, potentially leading to localised power cuts and the loss of other services to some homes and businesses

More people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers leading to an increased risk of water safety incidents

Some delays to road, rail and air travel are possible, with potential for welfare issues for those who experience prolonged delays

Today:

A fine and dry day with plenty of strong sunshine and light winds. A little high level cloud at times, especially in the south and west. Temperatures rising through the morning to give a very hot afternoon. Maximum temperature 35 °C.

Tonight:

Staying dry through the evening and overnight with clear spells. Exceptionally mild for many, making for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Minimum temperature 18 °C.

Tuesday:

Another hot day, but cooler in the west than on Monday. high cloud should move in from the south through the afternoon bringing the risk of a few showery outbreaks. Maximum temperature 34 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudier and cooler on Wednesday with showers, possibly heavy. More settled again for Thursday with temperatures nearer the seasonal average. Largely dry on Friday perhaps with a few isolated showers.
