An appeal has been made to shoppers at Tesco in Bangor to donate the plastic tokens given at the till, to help the new Cegin Bike Club in Maesgeirchen.

The project will enable young people who don’t own bikes to join the club, providing an activity whilst also promoting health and fitness. The club will also teach youngsters all aspects of cycling and bike care, including stripping and rebuilding the bikes.

The new club is being led and set up by Gareth, a local warden for Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd independent housing association.

Local councillor ‎Nigel Pickavance said:We could possibly get up to £6,000 which will enable us to purchase new bikes, equipment and fund volunteers to become qualified cycling leaders, but this is impossible without your help.

“The project will enable young people who dont have access to bikes to come along and join the bike club. with the club being located so close to the Lon Las Ogwen cycle track, the Cegin bike club will no doubt be popular.”

The plastic tokens are available at the checkout in Tesco (If you’re not given a token, please ask for them) they can then be donated in store, to a charity of your choice.

You can donate the tokens to help the Cegin Bike Club at the Bangor Tesco store until 28th February 2018.
