A group of motorcycling enthusiasts will ride through Bangor next week dressed as the 1970s stunt legend Evel Knievel, as part of a 1,200-mile charity ride across Wales.
The Cymru Knievels will be taking on the five-day ride, starting and finishing in Wrexham, to raise money for NSPCC Cymru/Wales from May 25-29.
Now in its twelfth year, around 50 riders will set off from Wrexham on Thursday, May 25, before visiting a number of checkpoints including Anglesey and Pembrey race circuits, as well as Swansea’s transport museum.
On the first day of the challenge the bikers will ride from Wrexham to Holyhead, Via GYG Circuit, Portmeirion, Betws-Y-Coed, Bangor, Amlwch, Anglesey Circuit.
The bikers are planning to ride through Bangor around 3:15pm on Thursday 25 May. A Cymru Knievel will stop with a collection tin, if anyone wants to make a donation for the NSPCC.
Jason Lewis, Ride Cymru Motorcycle Club chairman and event organiser, said: “After starting as a one-off event to raise £1,000, we are now in our 12th year and have raised £190,000 for charity.
“We are so pleased to be raising vital funds to support the work of the NSPCC this year.
“It promises to be a special event, stopping off at some fantastic locations with a range of celebrity guests joining us, all to raise vital funds.
“We hope you will support us in being ‘Evel’ for a good cause.”
As an added element to this year’s trip, there are plans for both football and rugby competitions for the Knievels – all dressed in their full attire and riding helmets. Other stop-offs include Glan Y Gors kart track, the RAF Valley air base, Portmeirion village, and many more.
