Participants at the weekly Aqua Aerobics class at the Bangor Aquatics and Healthy Lifestyles Centre enjoyed a surprise recently when Elvis impersonator Wynne Roberts joined the class to perform some of Elvis’ greatest hits.

Renowned Elvis impersonator Wynne, joined DementiaGo and Aqua Instructor Clare Harris, as she instructed the group in their exercises in the water and they helped raise funds for DementiaGo – the physical activity class for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

A coffee morning and raffle was also held, raising £270 towards special events and activities for people living with dementia to enhance their lives and help them live well with the disease.

Clare Harris said: “It was a fantastic turn out with over 30 of our regulars taking part and having a thoroughly good time exercising and singing along with Elvis. The DementiaGo team would like to thank everyone involved for their fantastic effort.”

Councillor Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on leisure said: “We fully support innovative events like this happening in our facilities where people come together to exercise and also help to raise awareness about dementia.

“The people who attend the class on a regular basis also enjoy the social aspect and have become firm friends. Exercise is one of the risk factors which can help reduce the risk of dementia and what a great way to encourage people to come along and take part.”
