A drink-driving pensioner who was stopped by police for the third time in a month, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

The 71-year-old man who was arrested on Saturday on the A55 at Bangor on Saturday giving a breath test reading of 55mg (legal limit is 35mg). He appeared before a Magistrates Court on Monday where he faces charges of drinking driving, disqualified driving and driving with no insurance and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison (suspended for 24 months), was disqualified from driving for 40 months and ordered to pay £128 victim surcharge and £85 CPS costs.

The pensioner had also appeared in court for two previous offences in June, where he was disqualified from driving for 36 months and ordered to participate in an alcohol rehabilitation programme.

North Wales Roads Policing Unit said: “Our proactive patrols continue. If you risk it, we will catch you. Please heed the warning.”
