Members of the Army visited Coleg Menai recently, and put students through their paces during three days of sessions and activities.

Under the supervision of Army personnel, students from the Sport and Public Services were split into groups and were required to complete a variety of tasks.

Sports and Public Services Teaching and Learning Mentor Jenny Davies said: “We arrange these days with the Army so that our students can learn new skills outside of the classroom.

“To solve problems and complete tasks successfully, they have to think not only for themselves, but also as part of a team, so these are all transferable skills which are valuable in any line of work.”

Sergeant O’Brian from the Welsh Guards and Army Careers, Bangor added: “These days are excellent for building courage and discipline in students. Participants also inevitably learn a great deal about leadership, communication and team-building skills, as every task and activity requires them to practise these.”

This is part of an ongoing relationship which has seen the Army make regular visits over a number of years to the college, inspiring students to ‘be the best.’
