An 11-year-old Pomeranian dog, which had been stolen from its London home over 12 months ago, has been found in Bangor, North Wales, nearly 300 miles from home.

Kiara the ‘Pomeranian’ has now been reunited with her owners Juan and Antoinette Mino, after being taken from their garden in London in August 2017.

Mr and Mrs Mino had given up all hope of finding Kiara until this weekend, when she wandered into Peter Daniel’s house in Bangor, he was then able to find Kiara’s owners via her microchip and the family were reunited.

Mr Daniel said he spotted two dogs going through his bins on Saturday before Kiara walked into his house and made herself at home. After putting posts on lost dog groups on Facebook, a woman volunteered to scan the dogs for microchips on Sunday and Kiara’s contained a phone number for her owners.

“They couldn’t get their heads around it, I can’t believe it myself,” Mr Daniel said. “While I was on the phone to the lady that owned the dog, her husband was getting in the car to drive the six or seven hours up here.”

Kiara’s owners had launched an extensive search after she went missing, distributing 500 lost dog posters, offering a reward and notifying lost dog agencies and councils. Mrs Mino said: “I’ve just been crying for days, I am so thankful.

“We are animal lovers and we have had dogs who have died before but with Kiara, we were always thinking ‘what’s happened to her? Was she ill-treated? Was she killed? Are they hitting her?

“It is so nice to have her back. My husband was home when she was stolen and he always felt guilty.”

Kiara will need some care and time to recover as it is believed she had been “living rough“ for several months. Mrs Mino added Kiara will have to be shaved by a vet, as her coated is knotted, she will also need health checks and vaccinations.

Mr Daniel is now looking after the Jack Russell who was found with Kiara and may permanently adopt the dog, which isn’t micro-chipped, if its owners cannot be found.

In a social media post Mr Daniel said: “Today we made a Christmas miracle for a lovely family in London who had there dog stolen in August 2017 we found her digging through bins in Wales yesterday morning, we found the owner and they have just driven straight 6 hours to Wales from London to collect there beloved dog. Microchips work people. Miracles do happen. Photo says it all.”

“The Jack Russell will be fostered, as he is abandoned after finding previous address of both dogs. if no genuine loving owners that he may have been taken from are looking for him he will be given a forever home here. Currently fast asleep on me.”
