Building work is progressing well on the new Ysgol y Garnedd in Bangor.
Read construction have reported that the steelwork frame is now complete and works are progressing well to the external building envelope with 65% of the buildings roof now complete and the vertical wall cladding progressing well.
A spokesperson said: “We are starting to get areas of the building water-tight – just in time for the autumn/ winter weather – and will be looking to start some internal first fix Mechanical and Electrical works towards the end of October.”
The new 420 pupil capacity school is being built on the lower section of the Ysgol Friars playing fields and is due for completion in 2020. The school will provide fourteen classrooms, two Additional Learning Needs (ALN) classrooms, a cylch meithrin along with a number of different teaching spaces, staff and administration areas and a large hall.
The new build is part of a wider £12.7 million investment into primary education in Bangor – which also includes increasing the capacity of nearby Ysgol y Faenol to 315 pupils. The scheme will see the closure of Ysgol Coed Mawr and Ysgol Glanadda in August 2020, with pupils allocated places at either the new Garnedd or increased capacity Faenol school.
Once open, the existing Ysgol y Garnedd will be demolished to make way for an additional car park and sports fields.
