Birth registrations have re-started in Gwynedd, with safeguards in place to protect the public, Council staff and the wider community from the further spread of the Coronavirus locally.
New parents will be required to get in touch beforehand to arrange an appointment. Then, the registration will take place in two steps – on the morning of the registration one or both parents are required to attend a telephone appointment where a Registration Officer will take all the relevant details. Then in the afternoon, one or both parents will be asked to come to the Council office at either Caernarfon, Pwllheli or Dolgellau to sign the paperwork. The Bangor register office at Ysbyty Gwynedd remains closed at present.
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for the Corporate Support Department, said: “The extra steps have been put in place to help us control how many people are coming to the Council offices at any one time, so that there is enough space to allow us to maintain social distancing. The appointments also mean we can regulate the time between visitors which will allow us to take the necessary precautions between appointments to help keep everyone safe.
“As a Council, we appreciate that the temporary suspension of some frontline services may have been confusing or frustration for people and we are grateful for their patience. Now that the Covid restrictions are being eased gradually here in Wales, our staff are working hard so that we can bring face-to-face business back safely.”
Birth registration appointments can be made by visiting the Gwynedd Council website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/births or telephoning 01766 771000.
When attending the Council’s offices, please pay extra attention to any instructions given by Council staff so that we can maintain safety. While face coverings are not mandatory in Wales, Gwynedd Council respects all individuals’ decision to wear one or not.
