The ‘Beast from the East’ which brought freezing temperatures, bitterly cold winds and snow to many parts of North Wales last February and early March, could return in January according to forecasters.

Temperatures have already dipped below zero and the cold weather is set to continue according to the Met Office, with snow possible from mid January.

According to the Met Office website: “By the third week of January there is then an increased likelihood of a change to much colder weather generally, bringing an enhanced risk of frost, fog and snow.”

Many will remember the infamous Beast from the East storm which gripped the UK and covered the country with snow and ice.

Some reporters, however, are doubting the return of such extreme weather. Forecaster Hannah Findley, of The Weather Channel, explained: “Short term models do not indicate this cold setting up during the first half of January, and UK temperatures are expected to remain around normal for the time of year.

“The cold risk increases later in January, but confidence is low due to the complex nature of the atmosphere.

“In the meantime, the UK will experience a brief dip in temperatures is predicted over the next few days in a northerly airflow. It will be especially cold overnight, and ‘feels like’ temperatures will be close to or slightly below zero during the day.

“From this weekend, UK temperatures are expected to recover to near normal for the time of year, but it will turn cold in eastern Europe in a northerly pull of air.”
