After a two-year break, one of Bangor’s best-loved community traditions is making a spectacular return this November, and the excitement is already building!
Bangor City Council has confirmed that its popular Beach Road Fireworks Display will return on Thursday 5th November 2026, bringing an evening of fireworks, food and family fun back to the city.
The event, which last took place in November 2023 and attracted thousands of spectators, has been absent for the past two years due to Welsh Water’s major development works at King George V Playing Field on Beach Road.
Now, with the field available once again, the Council’s events team is preparing to welcome families back for what promises to be a fantastic evening.
The event will begin at 6pm, with the fireworks display starting at 7pm, delivered by one of the country’s leading professional fireworks companies.
And, as always, admission is completely FREE!
A Bangor tradition returns
For generations of Bangor families, Bonfire Night at Beach Road has been a firm fixture in the calendar, and few will have forgotten the excitement of heading down to the field on a cold November evening.
Councillor Nigel Pickavance, one of the main organisers from Bangor City Council’s events team, said:
“It’s absolutely fantastic to have the fireworks back at Beach Road. It’s been two years without them, and I think we’ve all missed it!
“For so many of us who grew up in Bangor, Bonfire Night down at Beach Road was something we looked forward to every year. You’d be wrapped up in your big coat, wellies on your feet, with a bit of homemade treacle toffee in your pocket that your Mam or Nain had made. Then off you’d go down to the field with the family, all excited to see the fireworks.
“And that’s what makes this event so special. It’s not just about the fireworks, it’s about those memories. Most of us can remember being taken down there as kids, and now we’re seeing parents and grandparents bringing their own children and grandchildren along to enjoy the very same tradition.
“We had thousands turn out in 2023, and it was a brilliant night. To be able to bring it back again, after everything that’s kept us away for the last two years, is something we’re really chuffed about.
“So get your coats on, dig out those wellies, bring the family and come and join us. Let’s give Bangor a fireworks night to remember!”
Visitors will have plenty to enjoy before the main display, with a range of food and refreshment vendors attending the event.
A hog roast, burgers, hot drinks, doughnuts and sweets are among the refreshments expected to be available, with more treats potentially on offer.
And this year, there’s another way to enjoy the fireworks!
Bangor’s historic Garth Pier will be opening late especially for the occasion, offering a unique vantage point from which to watch the display across the water.
Along with other kiosk holders, The Pavilion at the end of the Pier will also remain open, serving hot food and drinks, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the evening from one of Bangor’s most recognisable landmarks.
With a large turnout anticipated, Bangor City Council is encouraging everyone to plan their journey and allow plenty of time to arrive.
The car park opposite the Crosville Club will be closed for the event.
Street parking will be available in the surrounding area, but visitors are asked to park considerately, respect local residents and ensure that access routes are kept clear at all times.
Those living within walking distance are strongly encouraged to leave their cars at home.
The Council is also reminding visitors that the event takes place on a playing field in November, so warm clothing and suitable footwear, particularly wellies, are strongly recommended!
A word about sparklers
While the fireworks display itself will be professionally managed, the Council recognises that some visitors may choose to bring sparklers.
Anyone doing so is expected to act responsibly and take particular care around children and other spectators.
Children must be closely supervised by a responsible adult at all times when sparklers are being used. Sparklers can remain extremely hot even after they have stopped burning and can cause serious injuries if handled or discarded carelessly.
Used sparklers must be allowed to cool completely and disposed of safely. They must never be left on the playing field or discarded where they could injure another person.
The Council asks everyone to be considerate of those around them and help ensure the evening remains safe and enjoyable for all.
The fireworks display is a free community event, with no admission charge.
Collection buckets will be available on the evening for anyone who wishes to make a voluntary donation, with the proceeds going to a local charitable group.
All contributions, however small, will be gratefully received.
With the return of a much-loved tradition, a spectacular professional display, plenty of food and refreshments and the opportunity to watch from Garth Pier, Bangor is getting ready for a Bonfire Night to remember.
