Bangor University student Teleri Davies made her Wales debut in a thrilling 18-17 victory over Scotland at Colwyn Bay on Friday night, in the opening match of the women’s 2018 Six Nations.
Wales lead 13-0 at the break and 18-5 afterwards, but Scotland fought back to take the game to the wire.
Teleri, 20, a third-year law student at Bangor University, plays for Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) and has been travelling regularly to Cardiff to train with the squad on Wednesdays and at the weekends.
After the game Teleri paid tribute to her father Bryan “Yogi” Davies who died in 2013, at the age of 56, six years after a scrummaging accident left him tetraplegic, while playing rugby for Bala.
Teleri said: “It’s such an honour to have my first cap, especially with such talented young women.
“I’ve worked so hard over the last few years and it’s such a privilege to be on the pitch representing my country.
“It was very emotional, I play every game with my father in my heart, he’s the one that taught me from such a young girl how to play, although he’s not here to see what I’ve achieve, he would be so proud of me.”
