Bangor University have announced plans for a 3G, all weather pitch, at their sports facility at Treborth in Bangor.
The University’s Treborth site is located next to the Menai Straits on the outskirts of Bangor and consists of 4 full size football pitches and 2 rugby pitches as well as an eight lane athletics track and pavilion. The site recently hosted training camps for the Wales and Finland U21 football squads.
Tatenda Shonhiwa, President for Bangor Students’ Athletic Union (AU), said: “It is with great pleasure that as AU President I get to announce to the AU members and student body, that the University Bangor will be going out to tender for the installation of a 3G pitch at Treborth.
“This is subject to suitable tenders and planning permission, but all being well, we will have the new facility in 2018.
“This was possible through representation from your Students Union/Athletic Union and colleagues in Sport at Bangor.
“I am happy to share this news with students especially clubs who have been struggling with conditions on the grass pitch.”
In 2014 Bangor University jointly funded the development of a 3G pitch at Bangor City Football Club. The project by the Football Association of Wales, Bangor University, Sport Wales and Bangor City Council, ensured that a large number of junior and senior clubs in the community can keep training all year, whatever the weather.
