Bangor University have submitted plans for a temporary gym and weights room on land adjacent to Neuadd Reichel, on Ffriddoedd Road, Bangor.
The temporary structure, planned for a period of 12 months, would also include a reception area, changing rooms and toilet facilities.
The university sports facility at Canolfan Brailsford is still providing a service to the NHS as a Rainbow Hospital, although the facility hasn’t been used for patients as yet.
A statement on the university website said: “Bangor University Sport are working behind the scenes to make sure we are ready to offer a sports and fitness programme when we are allowed to do so.
“We are aiming at having a programme of activity for students, staff and members of the public during September. We will closely monitor the situation and the guidance presented to us and work with all governing bodies to ensure re-opening standards are met.
“We are now reviewing how we can re-introduce outdoor exercise and will keep you up to date as soon as these services become available.
“I’m sure many of you have seen in the local press there have been some considerable changes to the sports centre facilities due to the university supporting the local health board and our centre being used as a field hospital.
“Rest assured once life returns to normal, Canolfan Brailsford will be providing the same service as before and our facilities will be made good to serve Bangor university students, staff and the local community for all your sporting needs. Keep an eye on our website for monthly updates and social media channels for weekly news.”
