Students from Undeb Bangor Student’s Union will take part in National Student Volunteering Week, 7 – 14 February.

This year’s RAG (Raising and Giving) will raise money for St David’s Hospice (Hosbis Dewi Sant) and Rainforest Trust throughout the year; they are 1 of 58 volunteering projects at Undeb Bangor.

The aim of this week is to shine a light on the great work carried out by the students as well as encouraging volunteering to continue with enhancing the links between the University and the local community.

Student Volunteering has a long history in Bangor with the first few projects dating back to the 50’s and 60’s with some of the original projects still running; this is down to the dedicated project leaders, volunteers and the VP for Societies and Volunteering making volunteering at Bangor a highlight of the student experience for many.

The student volunteers have organised some amazing variety of events this year, from beach cleans and litter picks to Valentines fundraisers.

Katie Tew, VP for Societies and Volunteering covers the remit of Volunteering at Undeb Bangor, and is responsible for co-ordinating Student Volunteering Week at Bangor with the help of student volunteers.

She said: “Our students work hard throughout the year helping in our communities, reaching out to people and generally being great people.

“Our volunteers make a real difference in the local and University community. This week really showcases what our volunteers get up to year round and it’s a pleasure to play a part in that.

“I loved Student Volunteering Week when I was a student and I helped out with a lot of the events; there is a real buzz about the week and I can’t wait to see what this week holds, how many new volunteers will gain and what new opportunities will come our way.”
