Bangor Post Office will close on Tuesday, 29 December 2026, while applications to operate a replacement branch are being considered.

The Post Office has confirmed the closure date for its branch inside TG Jones at 264 High Street in an information letter published on its official website.

The closure follows restructuring by retail partner TG Jones, which is closing a number of its stores.

Post Office Ltd says it is working to maintain services in Bangor and is in the early stages of reviewing applications from prospective operators. However, no replacement location or opening date has yet been announced.

The letter, signed by Corporate Account Lead Kieran Gibson-Ogunmokun, says the organisation is seeking a solution that would allow Post Office services to continue serving the local community.

Any future arrangement would need to be financially sustainable for both the operator and Post Office Ltd. A further update will be provided as soon as possible.

The organisation has apologised for the inconvenience the closure may cause and identified branches in Maesgeirchen and Menai Bridge as alternatives for customers.

Maesgeirchen Post Office, at 90 Penrhyn Avenue, is approximately 0.9 miles from the High Street branch. According to the notice, it offers a similar range of services, although customers will not be able to access Passport Check & Send, vehicle tax, on-demand travel insurance or a comprehensive range of travel money services.

Menai Bridge Post Office, at 7 High Street, is approximately 2.5 miles away and is listed as offering a similar range of services to the Bangor branch.

The notification was published on 20 October. Although it appears on the Post Office’s Consultation Hub, it is a closure notification rather than a public consultation on whether the branch should close.

Customers with questions can contact the National Consultation Team by emailing comments@postoffice.co.uk or writing to FREEPOST Your Comments.

The official notice and information letter are available on the Post Office’s Bangor notification page.
