Bangor Gymnastics Club has paid tribute to one of its former coaches who has passed away.
The club announced on their Facebook page that Stan Buckley, their former head coach, had recently passed away.
The Facebook post read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Stan Buckley.
“Mr Buckley was Head Coach at Bangor for 15 years and was respected, admired and loved by so many gymnasts and coaches over the years.
“Those that know Mr Buckley will agree he was a true legend and inspired so many of us throughout our gymnastics journeys
“His memories will live with us forever.
“We send our sincere condolences to (wife) Diane and the family.”
A statement from Buckley Gymnastics Club said: “It’s with great sadness that we have to share the news of the passing of Mr Stan Buckley who will be forever remembered by our club.
“He has been key to the club’s success and has helped to train countless gymnasts and coaches since 1979, only stepping down as coaching director last year.”
Club board director Ceri Sass, a former club gymnast and head coach, said Mr Buckley’s “passion for gymnastics and Buckley Girls’ Gymnastics Club was second to none”.
“People always asked if the club was named after him – it easily could have been,” she said.
“He was the driving force behind the club for more than 40 years.”
Ceri said: “‘Mr B’ – we will endeavour to keep your passion burning in the gym and we will strive to make you proud.
“My coach, my mentor and my friend for over 30 years – thank you.”

Mr Buckley will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
In its own tribute, Welsh Gymnastics said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend and coach, Stan Buckley.
“Stan made an impression on everyone he met and was an integral part of our gymnastics community. He will be deeply missed.
“Our sincere condolences are sent to Diane, Debbie, Maxine and the extended family.”
