The Bangor Garth Pier Festival on 14 May, which included a full afternoon and evening of musical entertainment, culminated in a firework display over the pier and attracted over 2,500 visitors.
The festival was a celebration of the pier’s 127th anniversary (it was opened on 14 May 1896) and marked the end of Bangor Garth Pier as the National Pier Society’s (NPS) Pier of the Year and coincided with the NPS’s Year of the Pier celebrations.
The music programme gave a platform for wide range of local musicians who performed on a stage just outside the pier gates. There were also over 30 food, drink artisan stalls for the visitors to enjoy.
The event was organised by the Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, Bangor City Council and the wider pier community.
The Chair of Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, Avril Wayte, said: “As Chair of FBGP I am delighted that our festival to celebrate the pier’s 127th birthday was so successful and enjoyed by so many people.
“Bangor is so lucky to have a pier, such a wonderful venue for events such as this, with space for everyone to enjoy themselves whilst admiring the beauty of the local area and of course the pier itself.
“We hope to make a small profit which we will use to fund similar events in the future.
I am really grateful to our wonderful volunteers who made sure that the day ran smoothly and to Bangor City Council for their tremendous support which made the event possible. Here’s to next year!”
