Bangor City Council have given notice of a vacancy in the office of councillor for Deiniol ward.

The vacancy follows the resignation of Labour councillor Salik Rahman who was elected in August last year, but has now stood down. Mr Rahman is believed to have offered his resignation at a council meeting on 24 June.

Deiniol is one of eight electoral wards in the city of Bangor. The ward covers the centre of the city including the High Street and Bangor Cathedral (dedicated to St Deiniol) and, according to the 2011 Census, has a population of 1,839 people.

Two councillors represent Deiniol on Bangor City Council and one county councillor on Gwynedd Council.

An election will be held to fill the current vacancy if a request in writing for an election is sent to the Returning Officer, Gwynedd Council, Council Offices, Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 1SH by ten electors of the said ward within the period ending at 12 noon on Friday, 26 July 2019.

In the absence of a request for an election, the vacancy will be filled by the City Council.
