An appeal for witnesses and information is being made after damage was caused to a landmark war memorial in Bangor.

 

The Memorial Arch, is the elegant building and a visible symbol and reminder, which sits below the main Bangor University on Deiniol Road. Inside the Memorial Arch are inscribed the names of 8,500 individuals from the counties of north Wales, who died in active service during the Great War. 

At approximately 7:45pm on Sunday, 22 January, two youths were seen to be kicking and damaging the doors of the Memorial Arch.

Both male youths are described as being aged approximately 15 or 16-years-old. One was wearing a grey tracksuit and the other was wearing grey tracksuit trousers and a black hoodie.

PC Lew Williams said: “This was an appalling act of vandalism, and we are urging anybody who may have been in the area on Sunday night and who may have dash cam footage to contact us immediately.”
