Bangor City Stadium to Host Cymru’s Opening Clash
Football fans in Bangor will be treated to a thrilling start to the competition as Cymru faces off against England on Wednesday, 19 March, at 7 pm. This highly anticipated showdown will be a major highlight of the tournament, with Bangor providing a passionate home crowd to back Chris Gunter’s young squad.
North Wales Venues Welcoming Europe’s Brightest Talents
Following the opening match in Bangor, Cymru will continue their campaign at the Hops & Barley Community Stadium in Rhyl, where they will take on Portugal on Saturday, 22 March (5 pm), before facing Türkiye on Tuesday, 25 March (7 pm). Additionally, matches will also take place at Deeside College in Connah’s Quay.
A Crucial Stage for Cymru’s Young Stars
For Cymru’s U19 squad, the Elite Round presents a crucial opportunity to showcase their abilities on home soil. Many of these young players were part of Cymru’s historic participation in the 2023 UEFA U17 EURO finals, marking the country’s first qualification for a major tournament since 1981. Now, with the spotlight on them, they have the chance to take another step forward in their development.
With North Wales also set to host the 2026 UEFA U19 EURO finals, this tournament serves as a vital test run for the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and a chance for local football communities to rally behind the next generation of Welsh stars.
Cymru U19 Head Coach Chris Gunter is eagerly anticipating the tournament, saying:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our young players to compete at this level, especially in front of our home supporters. Bangor and the other host cities will play a massive role in making this a memorable tournament for the squad and the fans. These young players represent the future of Welsh football, and I hope the people of North Wales come out in full force to support them.”
Live Coverage and Unmissable Action
Fans who cannot make it to the stadiums can still catch all the action live, as S4C and Sgorio will provide full coverage of Cymru’s matches. Viewers will be able to follow the games through S4C Clic, YouTube, and Facebook, with both Welsh and English commentary options available.
S4C Sports Commissioner Sue Butler also emphasized the importance of this event, adding: “S4C is proud to be broadcasting this tournament, further demonstrating our ongoing commitment to Welsh football at all levels.”
