Bangor 1876 will host FC United of Manchester in a pre-season friendly at Nantporth on Saturday 6th July at 3pm.
1876 played their first ever match against fellow fan-owned club FC United at their Broadhurst Park stadium in 2019. Despite the result, a 12-1 win to the hosts, a special bond has formed between the two clubs, with fans from both clubs regularly vising to watch each other’s clubs.
FC United were formed in 2005 by supporters of Manchester United who opposed American businessman Malcolm Glazer’s takeover of that club. FC United are owned and democratically run by their supporters and operate as a community benefit society on a one-member, one vote basis.
United currently play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of the English football league system.
Bangor 1876 club chairman Glynne Roberts said: “The friendly marks the 5-year anniversary of our first game and demonstrates how far we’ve come that we’re now able to return the gesture of hospitality. We have always been grateful to FC United for offering to be the first team to play us and have kept in close touch with them over those 5 years, and they have always been supportive in helping us with our development.
“We will be wearing special commemorative white shirts as a one-off for the friendly in recognition of the importance we place on our relationship with our friends at FC United.”
Entry to the game will cost £7 for adults and £4 for children and concessions and it will be pay-on-the gate. Further details about the game and the rest of our pre-season schedule will be announced shortly.
